about

In the performance I used the previously recorded field recordings of various places in and around Hamburg, found according to a concept around the word Murphy, a record player with toasts that fell on the plates. And the digital possibilities of a laptop in 2006, through which the recordings were processed in space. There are frequent pauses in this recording of the performance, a rare case in electronic concerts and one of the reasons why 16 years later it was important to release this recording of a unique performance.

"If something can go wrong, it will go wrong ((U+C+I) x (10-S))/20 x A x 1/(1-sin(F/ 10)) - that is Murphy's law, and that is how the American Air Force engineer Edward Aloysius Murphy formulated it in 1949.
Certainty of action is an illusion in the mad complexity of life. Why do inanimate objects behave the way they do? Where do these minor and major adversities of everyday life come from? In our brain, we update our worldview ten times a second. Murphy's law shows us what can happen when these mental processes fail. A closer look at Murphy's law gives us a better insight into ourselves.
Many scientists have been fascinated by Murphy's Law and have repeatedly tried to test it experimentally. For example, several experimental setups have examined the free fall of breakfast toast, which falls off the table primarily onto the buttered side.
The performance Murphy's Fall is not least a tribute to the great Irish writer Samuel Beckett, whose 100th birthday is being commemorated this year. Beckett called his first novel, published in 1935, "Murphy!", visionarily anticipating that the tragicomic fate of his title character could one day also be captured by a physical formula that so aptly describes the human condition."
